Good Car Detailing Behaviours
Think detailing a car is that easy? YouTube tutorials make things look simple. After watching some online tutorials – how to apply wax, how to remove bad odours or how to clean car seats – you might think you have the knowledge and skills to be an auto detailer. That’s too soon! Tutorials should guide you, not fool you. Check out our expert car detailing guide.
Use the Right Supplies
Many people detail their cars with no experience. One mistake they normally do is taking whatever they can find in the house – window cleaners, used towels, any kind of soap – to wash their ride. This won’t protect your paint nor make your car shine. Having the right equipment is important. Invest in the right tools and products, including microfiber towels, a clay bar and some car wax.
Only Use Two Water Buckets
A waterless car wash is suitable for drought-stricken areas. If washing your car with water, use two buckets. Put clean water in one bucket and suds in the other. Rinse the towels with soapy water to remove dirt. Dip the towels in clean water to wipe your car.
Microfiber Towels Come In Handy
Don’t wash your car with old towels. Using old rags can damage your paint. Auto detailers use microfiber cloths, whether they’re washing the exterior, cleaning the interior or wiping the windows. After each wash, clean your microfiber cloths and let them dry.
Clean the Interior First
A real detail restores your bodywork, makes your car shine and keeps the interior clean and fresh. When detailing your car, start inside. Vacuum the mats and seats and wipe the dashboard, gear shift and steering wheel. Take out the trash beneath the seats as it can produce mould.
Wax It All
Waxing gives your exterior a shiny look and protects your paint from road debris, minor scratches and the hot sun. You can wax yourself. But make sure you use the right products. To apply wax, you’ll need a buffer or an applicator. Remove the wax with a microfiber towel.
Mind Your Bodywork
Contaminants can damage your car. To know whether your car needs a polish, wear a plastic bag on your hands and feel the surface of the car. A rough or bumpy bodywork means you have sticky dirt. To remove it, perform a clay bar treatment. Be careful not to scratch your car.
Washing windows is one tough task. And there is no easy way to go about it. Just use a quality car window cleaner. Clean the exterior side vertically and the interior side horizontally to know which part is dirty. Wipe off the dirt using a soft cloth. A rough fabric can cause scratches.
Refresh Your Fabrics and Leather
Shampoo the fabrics of your car. Apply leather conditioning to protect your leather seats and give them a new look. The shampoo and conditioner give your car a new smell that you’ll definitely appreciate.
